The History of LSP
December 15, 2022
Theoretical Foundations
Robert Rasmussen and Per Kristiansen
The meeting discussed the history and evolution of LEGO SERIOUS PLAY, including its development and eventual collapse. The speakers emphasized the importance of understanding the history and shared their aspirations for the future. Participants were split into breakout rooms to discuss various topics and were reminded to fill out a survey for feedback. The conversation is about the history of LEGO SERIOUS PLAY and will be discussed in three parts: the Executive discovery years, the Lego years, and the community and association years. The history of Lego's LSP is discussed, including the transition from affiliation to royalty agreements, pruning of the partner network and product portfolio, and making the process lean. Robert discusses the evolution of LEGO SERIOUS PLAY into a method for thinking, communication, and problem solving. He discusses how Lego gave up on LEGO SERIOUS PLAY in 2010, leaving the community fractured and confused, but ultimately Per and Robert picked up the pieces and continued to develop the concept. They felt a sense of urgency to create something new for a client who wanted an in-house training, and wanted to protect the integrity and quality of the service they were providing. Their goal was to make a difference with LSP and establish a disconnect from the business aspect, coming full circle to the original values of LSP. At the end, Beatrix gives an outlook of the Coffee Chat program for 2023, including topics and dates.
